Piano Scripture

The engage pedal notation is represented by the syntax ?. This is located after the note and before the dynamics. For example, two F major half notes with the engage pedal notation on the second note would look like this:

FM --2 FM? --2

The release pedal notation is represented by the syntax !. This is located in the same location as the engage pedal notation. For example, if you were to engage the pedal for one A major half note and release it in the second A major half note, the music in GeN would look like this:

AM? --2 AM! --2

A variable pedal mark is represented by the notation and ? and !, ! representing the pedal being released momentarily. The spacing follows the same syntax as slurs and glissandos. For example, four D4 quarter notes with the pedal held down for the first quarter note, released momentarily for the second, and held down for the third and fourth using a variable pedal mark would look like this:

?D4? --1 !D4! --1 ?D4? --1 ?D4? --1

Or you could simplify it:

4"D4 --1"?,!,?,?

A Con sordino or an Una corda is represented by the syntax mm, and a Senza sordino or a Tutte le corder is represented by the syntax ww. It is used the same way that ? and ! are used. For example, a muted D5 half note followed by an unmuted D5 half note is represented as follows:

D5mm --2 D5ww --2
